CIHA ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES 2017

CALL TO ORDER
Our Annual Board Meeting was called to order at 7:05 P.M. on November 14, 2017, at 7500 Highland Road White Lake, MI 48386.

IN ATTENDANCE
President: Maureen Thomas, Treasurer: Mike Williams, Secretary: Sherry Woodbeck, Board Member Dave Weber and CIHA Members: Jim & Laura LaRosa, Patrick O’Neill, Joe McGee, David & Mary Schoenegge, Tracy Hagood, Marsha Niles, Ronney & Janice Dawson, Chuck & Kelly House, Julie Grix, and Jon Karibian.

GUEST SPEAKERS
Township Supervisor Rik Kowall, Police Chief Dan Keller, and CIHA Police Liaison Sgt. Matt Ivory spoke about a variety of issues ongoing in the Township and their respective departments. Specific to our subdivision, Sgt. Ivory noted 364 police visits to our subdivision in 2016 and 302 in 2017 to date. The majority of these contacts are vacation watch home checks (284 in 2016 and 213 in 2017). There were 2 criminal contacts for vehicle theft. See attached Holiday Safety Tips attached to these minutes for suggestions to prevent crime in our subdivision.

NEW RESIDENTS
Welcome to new residents Joe & Michelle McGee 714 Ranveen

UPDATES SINCE LAST MEETING

HALLOWEEN BONFIRE
The Halloween bonfire was well attended. Thank you to Jeremy MacBeth for bringing the pallets to the park; Joe Raye and Darren Lewis for starting and tending the bonfire and Jon and Leah Karibian for the cider, donuts and other treats.

SNOW REMOVAL
We have a new snow removal contractor. Except for Island Drive, all of the roads in our subdivision are county roads and the Road Commission is responsible for snow removal and salting. Our snow removal service is only an emergency backup to clear a path to allow you to enter or exit the subdivision before the county plows show up.
We do not plow unless 4 inches of snow has fallen. The plow will make two passes only. Snow will not be cleared to the pavement and the entire roadway will not be plowed. There will likely be a buildup of snow in front of the mailboxes and driveways which YOU will need to remove. Our contractor does not salt. Members are responsible for marking their own property to prevent damage from the plow.
Contact Road Commission for Oakland County at 877 858 4804 for additional plowing and all salting.

TREASURER’S REPORT
Please see the attached financial report. We are still under budget for dues revenue. Only 106 members have paid dues this year. If you have not paid your dues, please pay today. Make your check for $100 payable to “CIHA” and send to our new Treasurer Mary Schoenegge 708 Ranveen

NEW BUSINESS

SIGNS AT THE ENTRANCE:
Small Garage Sale, Open House or other event signs may be placed at the entrance (so long as they do not block the view of oncoming traffic) on the day of the event only. All other signs will be removed. The current “For Sale By Owner” sign at the entrance belongs to the owner of that lot and is not subject to the 24-hour limit.

HOLIDAY BONFIRE & TOYS TOTS:
This event will be held Sunday, December 17 at 6 p.m. and once again we are collecting Toys for Tots. We are looking for volunteers to start and tend the bonfire, make holiday cookies, and represent Santa. Please contact our new Vice President Jon Karibian if you are willing to assist at karibian2226@comcast.net or call/text him at 224-688-8913 and include your name and what you're volunteering for.

HOLIDAY ENTRANCE DECORATIONS:
Thank you to Mary & Dave Schoenegge, Janice & Ronney Dawson and Tracy & Larry Hagood for braving the cold to decorate the entrance area for the holidays this year. Thanks also to Bill & Bev Dombrowski for donating the Christmas tree and to Maureen Thomas, Jon & Leah Karibian, and Tracy & Larry Hagood for donating funds to purchase the other decorations.

OPEN DISCUSSION

A number of issues were discussed including the following:

TRAILERS
The deed restrictions for the subdivisions prohibit trailers (on or off wheels) from being maintained on the premises for use as a residence, camping or
any other purpose. If you have a trailer you may not store it on your property.

BURN PERMITS
You must have a permit for any bonfire or burning. The permit is free and can be obtained online here or at the fire department website. A sample permit is in the side bar of this site. It sets forth restrictions on burning. Please note that burning restricted materials or creating noxious smoke or fumes is illegal and the fire department will ticket you if a complaint is made.

LEAVES
The trash collection company, GFL 844 464 3587, will continue to pick up compost materials through the end of November. Please do not blow your leaves into the lake as this is bad for water quality. Please do not burn your leaves or blow them into the street as this is illegal.

SNOW FENCING
A resident suggested installing snow fencing on certain vacant lots to prevent drifting snow on the road. After consideration, the item was tabled until next year to evaluate the need for this during the coming snow season.

HALLOWEEN DATE
A resident suggested we move trick or treating and /or the Halloween bonfire to the Saturday before October 31. After consideration, the item was tabled.

WATCH YOUR EMAIL FOR A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE CEDAR ISLAND LAKE T- SHIRTS (short and long sleeves) & HOODIES AS A FUNDRAISER FOR THE FIREWORKS. A GREAT HOLIDAY GIFT IDEA! Thank you to Mary Schoenegge for this idea and all her work in designing and ordering the merchandise.
